All policies below are mandatory for staff and volunteers of Abide Student Ministry.

LCPC Policy for Communication with Minors

Definitions


Children/Youth Workers: A staff or volunteer who is over the age of 18. Volunteers or staff under the age of 18 may be held to the same policy at the discretion of the ministry leader (such as nursery workers).




Parent Permissions


Photos, video, or comments of a youth (7th-12th grade) at a LCPC event may be used exclusively for Student Ministry printed, video, web based, social media, or other publicity materials with the consent of the student, and can be used for LCPC communication with the consent of the parent or Guardian. Abide Student Ministry maintains an on-hand parent permission form that includes permission given to use photos, videos and comments of the student for promotional purposes.




Texting, Email, Phone Calls, and Social Media Accounts (both personal and LCPC-Official)


Applicable social media platforms may include but are not limited to: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, TikTok, Youtube, Reddit, WhatsApp Youth (7th-12th grade) may be contacted through text, email or phone calls by Children/Youth Workers (staff and volunteers) with student consent or initiation for the purposes of inviting youth to events, providing information about Student Ministries, providing counseling to students, and checking in. Under no circumstances may text messages or emails between a Children/Youth Worker and a student be deleted. LCPC Staff and Committees responsible for oversight may at any time require access to private correspondence between Children/Youth Workers and Youth.

All communication between Children/Youth Workers and youth in 7th-8th grade (Jr. High) should be made between the hours of 8am-10pm. All communication between Children/Youth Workers and youth in 9th-12th grade (High School) should be made between the hours of 6am-12am, recognizing that occasionally a student may require correspondence outside of the aforementioned timeframe. Youth may be contacted privately through designated social media accounts (such as through direct messages on Instagram and Facebook) for the purposes of inviting students to events, providing information about Student Ministries and providing counseling. Children/Youth Workers should practice intentional discretion when communicating with Jr. High students especially, recognizing their susceptibility to misunderstanding an adult’s intentions and motives. Children/Youth Workers may under no circumstances request that children or youth send pictures of themselves electronically and Children/Youth Workers may under no circumstances send pictures of themselves to children electronically outside of the purposes of acquiring promotional material to be used for public LCPC social media accounts.




Communication with Minors Through Video Calling


Applicable social media platforms may include but are not limited to: FaceTime, Zoom, Google Hangouts, Marco Polo Jr. High Youth (7th-8th grade) may be contacted through video calling between the hours of 8am-10pm by Children/Youth Workers (staff and volunteers) with parent consent for the purposes of student ministry events, providing information about Student Ministries, providing counseling to students, and checking in. Under no circumstances may video calls be made between a Children/Youth Worker and a Jr. High student without parent knowledge and permission.
High School Youth (9th-12th grade) may be contacted through video calling between the hours of 8am-12am by Children/Youth Workers (staff and volunteers) with student consent for the purposes of student ministry events, providing information about Student Ministries, providing counseling to students, and checking in.
